About the recruiting leader
The hiring manager for these positions is Kjell Erik Hofland, Senior Vice President IT at Höegh Evi.
Kjell Erik is an experienced leader with a strong background in IT strategy, management consulting, enterprise architecture, cybersecurity, and large-scale transformation programs across industries such as LNG, insurance, banking, shipping, energy, and the public sector.
He has led Höegh through an extensive technological transformation:
- modernizing infrastructure vessel/onshore
- new connectivity solutions vessel/onshore incl. introduction of Starlink
- analytics platform has been migrating to Microsoft Azure as basis for AI platform
- migrated to a cloud infrastructure based on MS Azure
- major increase in the cybersecurity maturity level
Under his leadership, the IT organization has been modernized, stabilised and future-oriented.
Kjell Erik is passionate about building robust internal teams and not being depended on external consultants, working integrated with the business, and positioning Höegh Evi to become a data-driven / "AI first" company.
He will be directly involved in the recruitment process and final selection.

HÖEGH EVI’S IT TRANSFORMATION JOURNEY
Höegh Evi is on an ambitious IT transformation path. After stabilizing technical infrastructure systems and security in 2023, they have moved into a phase of business solution renewals and modernization. This includes brand new cloud platforms, digitalization of business processes, a further strengthened the cybersecurity maturity level and bridging vessels and onshore.
From 2025 onwards, they aim to unlock even more value by digitalizing core operations, establishing an information-centric company, and embedding advanced AI capabilities.
This strategic roadmap underlines Höegh Evi’s commitment to innovation and long-term value creation — and it is in this context that the new Data Engineer and Data Scientist / AI Manager roles will contribute.
The role
Purpose
- Becoming a data-driven organization requires access to quality data. Data engineering to secure data from sources to be made available for business incl. source analysis, data extraction (batch, event-driven, real-time), data modelling. “Letting data serve it purpose for the business”
- The platform to be developed in a manner which easy to maintain and standardized manner for multiple purposes
- All performed in a cyber secure manner (information security)
Main tasks
- Understanding business need for quality data – purpose and format
- Source analysis
- Data quality improvement
- Getting access to data through MS Azure
- Selection of method for data extraction
- Design and implementation of source model
- Design and implementation data extraction and scheduling
- Lead the design and implementation of Azure-based data pipelines, ETL processes, and data integration solutions to support business analytics and reporting requirements.
- Manage the deployment and operation of Azure data platforms, such as Azure Synapse Analytics, Azure SQL Database and Azure Data Lake Storage.
- Develop and implement data engineering strategies, standards, and best practices using Azure Data Factory, Azure Synapse, and other Azure services to ensure efficient and reliable data processing and storage.
- Oversee the deployment and operation of Azure data platforms and technologies, ensuring optimal performance, scalability, and reliability.
- Provide technical leadership and guidance to the data engineering team, including mentoring, coaching, and professional development in Azure technologies.
- Drive continuous improvement in data engineering processes, tools, and methodologies using Azure DevOps and other CI/CD practices to enhance productivity and efficiency.
- Manage relationships with internal stakeholders and external partners to align data engineering efforts with business goals and objectives, leveraging Azure capabilities.
- Ensure compliance with data governance, security, and privacy policies and regulations in Azure cloud environments.

CANDIDATE PROFILE
Education
Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
Experience
- Analysis, development, and operation of data warehouse, big data, and data mining projects and solutions.
- Hands-on with Azure data services such as Azure Data Factory, Azure SQL Database, Azure Blob Storage, and Azure Data Lake Storage.
- Familiarity with Azure DevOps for CI/CD practices, Azure Monitor for monitoring and optimization, and Power BI for data visualization and reporting.
- Understanding of data governance, data security, and regulatory compliance requirements in Azure cloud environments. Information security.
- Infrastructure as Code (IaC) principles and tools like Azure Resource Manager (ARM) templates, Terraform, or similar.
